Stevens Point, WI (June 16, 2012) -- The Pacelli Girls Softball Team proudly defeats the Poynette Pumas in an 8-3 victory this afternoon. The win is understandably even sweeter as Poynette kept Pacelli from winning the title last year in Madison in a 4-0 defeat.
As they returned to Pacelli on this evening, they were met by very enthusiastic fans. A fire truck, ambulance and police escort paraded the bus which carried the 2012 WIAA Division 3 State Champions home for a never-to-be-forgotten celebration.
Determination, hard work and a committed team brought the results the girls hoped for.
“This championship is about parents, fans, Pacelli High School, former and future players.” Ann Molski, head coach, commented. Molski led the team to a 25-3 record for the season. “I told the girls they have the hearts of champions. They always wanted to know what they should do to get better, they were strong together and they stepped up.”
Beth Boden, assistant coach and former Pacelli alumni who during her years at Pacelli helped her team win the Division 4 State Championship in 2003, encouraged the younger players to carry on this tradition of success. She told the girls that, though the celebration is well deserved, they should continue to “never settle for good enough and keep working hard and challenging [themselves] to do better.”
Ironically Ann Molski served as assistant coach on that 2003 State Title Team. Fast forward to find Molski the head coach and Boden the assistant for the 2012 State Title Team.
The team is also supported by assistant coaches Tom Kujawski, Kelly Shields, Cassie Krumm and Megan Pehler.
The win marks Pacelli’s second state championship in softball since joining the WIAA in 2000.
The seniors particularly felt the honor to be in Madison, especially winning this game after last year’s loss. Seniors on the team include Alicia Wimme, Amy Miskowski, Danielle Hoover, Cassie Nelson and Callyn Haupert. Cassie Nelson explains, “We did it for the seniors last year who lost to them”.
Cassie Nelson delivered in her talent as pitcher and limited Poynette to seven hits, while walking five and striking out three. She said, “It’s unreal because no one was expecting us to go this far and we all pulled together.”
Other team members contributed as well. Danielle Hoover was on base all four times and scored four runs. Alicia Wimme, Amy Miskowski, Sami Kay Shafranski (freshman) and Anna Lensmire (junior) supplied hits as well. This strong lineup was the safety net for the Cardinals.
![]() Pacelli must bid farewell to five impressive senior players, who highly represented Pacelli with their strong talent within some very tough competition. Pacelli Softball is proudly noted in the Conference as Anna Lensmire has been named Conference Player of the Year, earning first team honors. Danielle Hoover earned first team honors and Alicia Wimme earned second team honors. Honorable mention was given to Cassie Nelson & Callyn Haupert.
In addition to all conference honors, Anna Lensmire was named 1st Team All State, and Danielle Hoover was named 2nd Team All State. These lection of the Wisconsin All State Softball Team is determined from players in Division 1 through Division 4 teams and truly emphasizes the capacity and drive of this unforgettable team.
Passing their leadership to the underclassmen on the team, only good things await this committed and determined group.
Congratulations to the 2012 State Softball Champions of Pacelli High School!
